PVD coating is a surface treatment performed in a vacuum chamber. Components are placed in a vacuum chamber where the coating material is vaporised. The vapor condenses and deposits onto the component surfaces, forming a thin but highly durable layer. 

In electroplating the coating relies on electric currents, whereas electroless plating rely on chemical reactions. Electroless platings provide a uniform coating, even on components with complex geometries.
