Decades of plating
– our history
We take pride in the rich history of our company. The story of an innovative couple who founded Chem-Tec in Uldum, Denmark and have since led us to become the successful organization we are today.
On October 4th, 1986, the first order was produced at Chem-Tec - gold plating on edge connectors of printed circuit boards.
Production took place in a 166 square meter production space, where two production lines had been set up. One line had nickel/gold for plating printed circuit boards, while the other line had electroless nickel for machine components.
In 1989, the first employee was hired full-time – and is still employed by the company today. Development continued. New processes were introduced, and there was a need to expand production again to keep up with customers. In 1990, the production was moved to Kærvejen 13 in Uldum, Denmark. A dairy plant and later a glue factory were previsouly located here, and the buildings gave us the space we needed for all the various plating processes.
In the years following our relocation, we added several plating treatments to our offerings. Our first fully automated system for plating printed circuit boards with silver and tin coatings was installed. As production expanded, so did our team, with a growing number of employees joining us to support our growth.
In 2004, Chem-Tec became Chem-Tec Plating A/S, and a professional board of directors was appointed, which has since contributed to our continued growth and development.
In 2015, Chem-Tec's founder, Thorkild A. Mikkelsen, passed the role of CEO to Bo Hvid Mikkelsen. Having worked as Production Manager since 2008, Bo had proven his commitment to the same innovative spirit that has defined Chem-Tec Plating throughout its history.
We continue to operate at Kærvejen 13, where we have expanded several times. Our most recent expansion in 2019 added 1,000 square meters of production space, bringing our total facilities to 3,600 squaremeters of production and office space.

- 1986: Chem-Tec is founded
- 1989: The first employee is hired
- 1990: Production moved to larger facilities
- 2004: Chem-Tec becomes a LTD with a professional board
- 2015: Bo Hvid Mikkelsen becomes the first director after founder Thorkild A. Mikkelsen
- 2019: We expand production by another 1,000 square meters
- 2020: We introduce a new ERP system to ensure greater traceability
